Plugins, Pixels & Priorities


    A pretty good week progress wise for the first half of the week. The second half not so much. I decided it was time to get my plugins sorted. I bought Yanfly's plugins pack many years ago and had used them in a previous project. So I know how helpful they can be and how much they can improve the overall look and feel of an RPG maker project. I didn't want to get too complicated though as the different systems and variations to gameplay these plugins can offer can be quite overwhelming. So keeping to the scope I have planned for the game I only ended up with... 33 Yanfly plugins. Most of this is just QOL type things like improved menus and displaying turn order and such.

    On top of that I also did some more sprite edits, but instead of using Affinity Photo which isn't really designed for pixel art I bought Aseprite as it was on sale. What an incredible tool it is! It made reworking the RTP assets so simple and I got through so much more work with greater accuracy than when I was using Affinity (which is still a great program, just not for this). So I'm looking forward to using this program more in the future and feel a little bit more confident in one day creating my own assets.

    Speaking of the future... I think I will need to step back from working on the game for a little while. I have found myself being too obsessed with this hobby project and it has been affecting my relationship with my wife, among other things. So I want to give those things the attention they deserve. I will still be working on the game but not every night as I have been and really only when other priorities have been taken care of. That's not to say I have been painfully neglectful of other aspects of my life, but more just being self aware and seeing that if things continue the way they are then it could become a problem. EOTW will still be happening each week but unless there is major progress made or something I feel is worth mentioning there won't be weekly dev blogs for now.
