Making Progress
What a week! In terms of progress on the game at least. The rough version of the main quest is complete. I went back and tidied things up just a little bit so I could confidently send a copy off to my two current play-testers. Overall I received good feedback with respect to it's very initial state. This has given me confidence to keep moving forward! A big thank you to Jaron and Benjamin.
During the week I wanted a little break from just slaving away at the main quest so I drummed up a few mini-games. The three I came up with were Chicken Run, a chicken counting game; Boulder Dash, a race to the top whilst dodging, you guessed it, boulders; and Mind Reader a tedious little game that is meant to be difficult as it will have a side quest attached to make it more manageable. Putting these together was a nice little distraction whilst still creating something worthwhile for my game.

Last week I mentioned that once I had completed the main quest, I wasn't sure what to work on next. I've decided to start taking a crack at the combat! In Trello I have a reasonably long list of enemy types that I've started creating in RPG Maker MV. I want to create very obvious enemy types whose names give away the types of moves they make. I also don't want battles (aside from boss battles) to be particularly long, so I think I am going to keep stats low. This will hopefully make balancing things a lot easier too. I aim to have a basic combat system in place by next week.
Creating the entire main quest I think has been a big plus in terms of keeping me motivated to complete this game. There is still a ton of work that needs to go into this thing though. One kind of negative thing about what I've done as well is I'm a bit more reluctant to make any major changes to the plot or characters; it has to be convenient to what I've already created. But that is also part of why I did it, to keep the scope in check and stop the game from ballooning out of proportion. I guess we'll see how well it works in the long run and if I will keep this approach on any future projects.
Thanks for reading my thoughts and if you've come this far say hi in the comments and let me know your favourite RPG combat system.
